Native terminal coding agents command center

Category: Developer Tools · Free · [Official website](https://supacode.sh/)

## Install with Homebrew

`brew install --cask supacode`

## Quick take

In August 2026 Supacode is one of the clearer answers to multi-agent session sprawl on Mac: native libghostty terminals, worktree isolation, BYOA CLIs, and free open-source packaging. It is still BETA and Tahoe-only, so treat it as a power-user tool rather than a polished IDE. Best when you regularly run several agents or projects; overkill for a single Claude Code tab.

Best for: Developers running 2+ AI coding CLIs in parallel, Mac engineers on Tahoe who want worktree-isolated agents, Teams standardizing multi-agent templates and GitHub PR loops, Users evaluating Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, and Aider side by side

## What is Supacode?

Supacode is a native macOS command center for terminal-based AI coding agents. Built on libghostty for GPU-accelerated terminal performance, it runs Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI, OpenCode, Aider, Goose, and other CLI agents in parallel, each in its own isolated git worktree, so you stop juggling anonymous Terminal tabs. As of August 2026 the project is actively maintained open source under the supabitapp organization (roughly 2.2k GitHub stars). Homebrew cask installs ship version 0.10.8 and require macOS 26 Tahoe or later. The app remains free (BETA) via DMG download or `brew install --cask supacode`; you still bring your own agent CLIs and API subscriptions. The problem it solves is session sprawl. A developer running Claude Code on a frontend, Codex on a backend, and Aider for local-model edits ends up with indistinguishable scrolling terminals, no aggregate token view, and no safe way to parallelize agents on one branch. Supacode replaces that with a structured dashboard: each session shows tool name, project path, status (running, waiting for input, idle, needs approval), elapsed time, and resource usage. Git worktree isolation is the main architectural bet. Every agent gets its own worktree so concurrent edits do not stomp the same working tree, which is what makes "50+ agents" practical rather than aspirational. GitHub-native workflows (open PRs, review CI, resolve conflicts) keep review inside the same surface where agents run. Templates still save the most setup time: project path, preferred CLI, model preference (Claude Opus 5 / Sonnet 5, GPT-5.6 Sol/Terra/Luna, Composer 2.5, local Ollama models, and whatever the underlying CLI accepts), system prompt, and flags. One click relaunches a fully configured session. Session history stores conversations, files touched, tokens, and duration locally for search and cost tracking. Honest take: Supacode is high value when you regularly run multiple agents or projects; if you use one tool on one repo, a single terminal tab is enough. The competitive set for multi-agent tools now includes Conductor, Nimbalyst, Opcode, Superset, and general terminals like Warp and Ghostty. Supacode's differentiator remains native libghostty performance plus worktree-first orchestration on macOS only.
Install is intentionally thin: the app does not replace your model vendor relationship. You still pay Anthropic, OpenAI, or whoever backs the CLI, and you still upgrade those CLIs on their own cadence. What Supacode owns is process layout, worktree hygiene, templates, and the dashboard that makes multi-session days legible. Homebrew 0.10.8 on macOS 26+ is the August 2026 snapshot; check brew info --cask supacode or GitHub releases before you standardize a team image.

## Features

- **Multi-Agent Dashboard.** The dashboard lists every active AI coding session as a card: tool name (Claude Code, Codex, Aider, OpenCode), project directory, status (running, waiting, idle, errored), elapsed time, and resource use. Cards update live. Click a card to open that session's conversation. The layout replaces "which terminal tab was that?" with a single view that scales toward 50+ concurrent agents.
- **Bring Your Own Agents.** Supacode does not bundle model weights or a proprietary agent runtime. Point it at Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, Aider, Goose, or another terminal agent binary. Model choice (Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, GPT-5.6 family, Composer 2.5, Gemini 3.x, local Ollama/MLX models) is whatever each CLI already supports. Supacode is the orchestration layer, not a competing agent.
- **Quick-Launch Templates.** Templates store project directory, AI tool, model preference (Claude Opus 5 / Sonnet 5, GPT-5.6 Sol/Terra/Luna, Composer 2.5, local Ollama models, etc.), system prompt, CLI flags, and environment variables. Launch a configured session in one click instead of retyping a long shell command. Multi-project developers keep one template per project-tool pair.
- **Git Worktree Isolation.** Each agent gets its own git worktree so true parallel work on one repository does not thrash a shared working tree. That isolation is what makes multi-agent runs practical and safer than three shells on the same branch.
- **GitHub Native Integration.** Open PRs, review CI checks, and resolve merge conflicts from Supacode without leaving the terminal surface. Code, commit, and open pull requests stay next to the agents that produced the changes.
- **Session History and Search.** Sessions log the conversation, files referenced and modified, tokens used, duration, and final status. Search by project, tool, date range, or keyword. If Claude Code explained a caching strategy three weeks ago, search "caching" and reopen that exchange. History is local on your Mac and survives restarts.
- **Resource Monitoring.** A monitoring panel shows CPU, memory, and token spend per session, plus an aggregate total. That matters with 3+ concurrent AI sessions: each Claude Code process can use 500MB+ of RAM, and token costs climb quickly. Use it to spot agents stuck in loops and to track API budget by project.
- **Native macOS Integration.** Supacode lives in the menu bar. Global shortcuts toggle the dashboard, launch a session, or cycle active sessions. Spotlight can search session history. Notifications fire when a session completes, errors, or needs input. Dark Mode and accessibility settings follow macOS system preferences.
- **Conversation View with Code Highlighting.** Opening a session shows the full agent exchange with syntax-highlighted code blocks, which is easier to read than raw terminal scrollback on long sessions. Turns collapse, file modification markers show what changed, and a timeline marks when each exchange happened.

## How to Install Supacode on Mac

Supacode installs via Homebrew cask or DMG. Requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later and at least one AI coding CLI installed separately (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Aider, etc.). Current Homebrew version is 0.10.8.

1. **Install Your AI Coding Tools.** Install the CLI tools you want to manage: brew install claude-code for Claude Code, pip install aider-chat for Aider, or follow the install instructions for other agents. Supacode manages these tools but doesn't bundle them.
2. **Install Supacode.** Run: brew install --cask supacode (or download the DMG from supacode.sh). This installs the native app bundle.
3. **Configure Tool Paths.** Launch Supacode and go to Preferences > Tools. Supacode auto-detects installed CLI tools in standard Homebrew and pip paths. If auto-detection misses any, manually add the path. Configure API keys for each tool if they're not already set in your shell environment.
4. **Create Your First Template.** Go to Templates > New. Set the project directory, select the AI tool, choose a model, and optionally add a system prompt. Save the template and launch your first managed session from the dashboard.

## Pros

- Native macOS app on libghostty with real terminal performance, not an Electron shell.
- Git worktree isolation makes true parallel agents practical on one repository.
- BYOA: Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, Aider, Goose, and other CLIs.
- GitHub-native PR, CI, and conflict workflows without leaving the tool.
- Free open-source BETA with no app-level subscription.
- Session dashboard, templates, history, and resource monitoring for multi-project work.

## Cons

- macOS 26 Tahoe only; no Windows or Linux app.
- Still BETA (Homebrew 0.10.x); expect rough edges versus mature IDEs.
- Requires separately installed agent CLIs and their API costs.
- Niche multi-agent tool; single-tool users may not need the management layer.

## Background: Multi-agent management as its own category

As AI coding CLIs multiplied, developers needed a management layer. Supacode is one answer in that emerging category.

## FAQ
