Free Alternative to Instashare

PairDrop is a maintained Snapdrop fork that runs in the browser and as a progressive web app. It helps when a guest device cannot install anything. If both devices sit on the same Wi-Fi, they appear automatically and you can drag files across with no account. I keep it as a fallback for locked down Windows laptops and school Chromebooks. It is not a full everyday replacement for clipboard heavy Mac to Android work, LocalSend stays stronger for that with native apps. PairDrop fills the no install gap that Instashare never solved well. Browser tabs can sleep though, so large transfers may pause if the tab is backgrounded, and there is no Bluetooth path.
