HyperWhisper vs MacWhisper

MacWhisper supports real-time microphone transcription, but it's architecturally designed as a recording-then-transcribing workflow rather than a system-wide dictation tool. When you use the microphone mode, the transcribed text appears in MacWhisper's own window and transcript editor, not directly in your active application. You then need to copy the text and paste it where you want it. While functional for dictation, this extra step makes it less fluid than HyperWhisper for quick voice-to-text throughout the day.

HyperWhisper now imports audio and video files with silence detection and multi-format support, which is a meaningful step beyond pure live dictation. It is still not a full library-centric transcription studio with batch project management comparable to MacWhisper, but one-off file jobs no longer require a second app for light work.

HyperWhisper does not include speaker diarization. It's designed for single-speaker dictation, not multi-speaker transcription.

HyperWhisper outputs text directly into your active application. There's no built-in transcript editor for reviewing or correcting longer transcriptions.
